At the Akordaj – Spotlight on Music conference in Timisoara, Serhan Bali, editor-in-chief of Andante magazine, addressed the challenges facing classical music journalism in today’s world.

“Classical music is under huge pressure from popular culture, popular music, anything popular. We have a lot of work to do. We have many challenges ahead of us that we have to overcome,” Bali explained. He emphasized that the job of a classical music journalist is not easy and requires a missionary approach.

Bali also emphasized the difficulty of attracting new audiences: “In magazine publishing, as a columnist, as a writer, as a journalist I always have a big struggle in attracting the attention of these people. Whether old or young. Because it’s an intellectual struggle, we have to admit that.”

Akordaj – Spotlight on Music is a conference organized by Classical ME, JM Hungary and Scena Muzicală, which brought together classical music journalism professionals from Hungary and Romania in Timisoara, with the aim of training the next generation of classical music journalists. The conference was co-financed by the Erasmus+ program.
