Alexandra Ivanoff at Akordaj - Spotlight on Music: Perspectives on world music audiences
Participating at the Akordaj – Spotlight on Music conference in Timisoara, music critic Alexandra Ivanoff offered valuable insights into the differences between music audiences in different countries.
“I think audiences in Turkey are very receptive, they decide very quickly whether they liked something or not and very quickly move on to discussing it. And it’s the same with Americans. Hungarians, on the other hand, don’t give feedback,” Ivanoff noted.
Based in Budapest, she writes for Papageno.hu and noted the high level of music education in Hungary, but also the public’s reluctance to offer comments.
“I know they have a lot to say and I know they think about a lot of things. Hungarians in general are extremely educated in music… Yes, I would like more feedback,” she said.
Readers in Turkey and the United States, on the other hand, don’t have this problem and are more than happy to provide feedback to critics, which helps them a lot in their following articles.
At Akordaj – Spotlight on Music, Ivanoff aimed to encourage young journalists to explore these dynamics and become active voices in promoting classical music.
