Alexandra Ivanoff trains the next generation of music journalists at Akordaj - Spotlight on Music conference in Timisoara
Alexandra Ivanoff, an American based in Budapest with more than 15 years of experience in music criticism, came to Timisoara to participate in the Akordaj – Spotlight on Music conference. Her aim: to train the next generation of classical music journalists.
“I am extremely happy to come to this event where music journalists are being trained, because it is a field I am very fond of, a profession I have been practicing since 2009,” Ivanoff said.
With degrees from the New York Conservatory of Music and Yale University, she has had a long performing career in New York, covering genres such as classical music, opera, operetta and jazz. She currently writes for the online publication Papageno.hu, where she has a column entitled “Ivana’s Ears in Budapest”.
“I started my career in Istanbul, when I was contacted by an English-language newspaper offering me a job as a music critic. I was shocked, because music criticism was in decline in the United States at that time,” she said.
Attending the Akordaj – Spotlight on Music conference gave her the opportunity to share her vast experience and inspire young aspiring music journalists.
